Finding Joy in the Journey: October Edition
October brings a shift in the air. The colors deepen, the trees change their clothes, and the pace of life tilts toward something slower. It’s the season where reflection feels natural. I look back at the goals I set in January, measure progress, and adjust what still matters. October is also the quiet start of holiday planning, when family, celebration, and gratitude start weaving their way into everyday thought.
There’s a lot to be grateful for.
There are more than a few things that are making me smile.
Here are a few things I’m loving lately:
Morning coffee. That first sip still feels like a whispered pep talk. The warmth, the aroma, the quiet way it tells my brain, you’ve got this.
My dog’s snore. Loud, ridiculous, comforting. He just wants to be near me. Honestly? Same.
Puzzles. I love the challenge. The quiet focus. The process of taking nothing and slowly building it into something.
Raised planter. A birthday gift turned tiny garden. We planted broccoli, spinach, beets, and kale, and already buds are showing. There’s something about planting seeds and watching them grow. That never stops being exciting.
Sunrise perched on a branch. The photo my husband captured looks like the sun sat down to rest. A reminder that beauty shows up in ways we don’t expect.
Conversations with my mom. Whether we’re talking about nothing or diving deep, her wisdom and encouragement are unmatched. There’s just nothing like talking to my mom.
Views that take my breath. From the top of Kennesaw Mountain to the window seat of an airplane, sometimes all it takes is lifting my eyes to remember how big and beautiful the world really is and how creative and great our God is.
I didn’t go looking for joy — it found me. Sometimes joy just shows up and waits for you to notice.
What about you?
What’s been showing up lately?
What’s making you smile?
Let’s keep the conversation going.
