Stop Talking
From Anguish to Hope
From Anguish to Hope is a seven-part devotional series following Jesus’ journey from the Garden of Gethsemane to Calvary. As He faced anguish, betrayal, suffering, and silence, He walked a road many of us know all too well. Because Jesus has already traveled that road, we can make our way from anguish to hope.

Then Pilate said to Him, Do You not hear how many things they testify against You? But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly. Matthew 27:13–14 (NKJV)
Many of us like to talk. When something happens, we want someone to know. We want someone to agree with us, to feel what we feel, to say, You’re right — that wasn’t fair.
Even Jesus longed for companionship. In Gethsemane, He took Peter, James, and John with Him for comfort. But when He was arrested, falsely accused, and dragged before leaders; He stood alone.
The accusations came fast. They twisted His words and distorted His truth. And still, He said nothing.
He could have argued. He could have proven Himself right. But He didn’t.
Jesus’ silence wasn’t weakness; it was obedience.
That silence speaks loudly to us. Because sometimes we defend ourselves not to clarify truth, but to protect pride. We want people to understand our side, to fix the story in our favor, to feel justified. But there are moments when the most powerful thing we can do is stop talking — not out of defeat, but out of trust.
Jesus didn’t have to convince anyone of who He was. His identity wasn’t up for debate.
Neither is yours.
Sometimes silence is your surrender to God. It’s your way of saying, You see. You know. You’ll defend me when the time is right.
