The Waiting
From Anguish to Hope
From Anguish to Hope is a seven-part devotional series following Jesus’ journey from the Garden of Gethsemane to Calvary. As He faced anguish, betrayal, suffering, and silence, He walked a road many of us know all too well. Because Jesus has already traveled that road, we can make our way from anguish to hope.

Jesus, when He had cried out again with a loud voice, yielded up His spirit. Matthew 27:50 (NKJV)
After the chaos, the mockery, the pain, and the anguish, there was a moment of profound stillness. This moment, a moment often overlooked, is the burial of Jesus.
Joseph of Arimathea, a secret follower of Jesus, sought Pilate for permission to bury Him in his own tomb. It was an act of quiet courage and deep compassion, a glimmer of reverence amid the wreckage of injustice. He laid the Savior to rest, wrapped in linen, and sealed the tomb.
The world paused.
The chaos subsided.
Jesus was sealed in the grave.
It was a silence thick with uncertainty. The crowds had dispersed, the cross stood empty, and the disciples hid in fear.
No one knew that beneath that stillness, heaven was at work. Redemption was stirring just beyond the stone.
This is the silence of Saturday, the waiting between pain and promise. The space where hope seems gone, prayers hang unanswered, and God feels quiet.
Maybe that’s where you are right now, caught between what was and what will be. You can’t yet see resurrection, but you’re also not where you used to be.
It’s a holy in-between.
In the waiting, remember: the silence of God is not the absence of God.
Even when you hear nothing, He’s still writing, still redeeming, still preparing the dawn.
And while we wait, we can still serve. We can worship, love, and trust Him right where we are. Waiting isn’t wasted when it’s spent in faith.
